A policy will be made to increase Border Tourism in Punjab: Rakhee Gupta

88 lakh foreign tourists came in six months

Amritsar - Rakhee Gupta Bhandari (IAS), Principal Secretary, Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department, Punjab, said that the overall potential of the tourism sector in Punjab is being developed, which will attract Punjabis living abroad, foreign tourists, Indian People coming from different regions will be attracted. People can enjoy the richness of historical and touristic places and heritage aspects of Punjab.

 

 

Rakhee Gupta Bhandari was addressing the Industry Roundtable on Border and Heritage Tourism organized during the 17th Punjab International Trade Expo (PITEX) organized by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry here today. She said that a separate plan has been made to promote border tourism in Punjab.

 

 

Every day people from the country and abroad come to see the retreat ceremony held at Attari, Hussainiwala and Fazilka areas on the India-Pakistan border. She said that the tourism policy has been made keeping in mind the characteristics of the districts in Punjab. Through which various aspects including special food and drink of the district are being highlighted. Punjab is called the land of five rivers, owing to this various events including River festival , Flower festival will be organized here in the future.

 

 

She said that from January to June 2023, 88 lakh 16 thousand 153 domestic tourists and 2 lakh 78 thousand 155 foreign tourists have come to Punjab. Apart from culture and water policy, destination based tourism will be promoted here to make Punjab a Rangla Punjab. She said that Punjab is famous all over the world for its food. Many famous chefs of the country are of Punjabi origin. Through them now the food of Punjab will be made famous abroad.

 

During the program, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry Punjab Chapter Chairman R. S. Sachdeva welcoming the guests and said that this time the Chamber has organized a tourism conclave in support of the Punjab government's thinking. Which will be expanded in future. On this occasion PHDCCI Co-Chair Ajay Mahajan, Tourism Committee Convener Harkirat Singh, Vidyan Goyal, Rajan Sehgal, S. D. A. Village Director Ish Gambhir, Major Sushil Gambhir and many dignitaries were present.
