Chandigarh: The Department of Community Medicine, GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh, in collaboration with the Department of Dietetics, successfully organised a Nutrition Awareness Drive on 15 September, 2026 in the OPD Block as part of the 9th Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2026. The initiative aimed to promote nutrition literacy and encourage healthy dietary practices among patients, attendants and the general public visiting the hospital.
The activity was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Sonia Puri, Head, Department of Community Medicine, and Dr. Ramandeep Benipal, Head, Department of Dietetics. The organising team comprised PGJRs, MBBS interns and students posted in the Department of Community Medicine, along with dieticians and interns from the Department of Dietetics.
Through interactive counselling and educational displays, the public was sensitised to healthy and diverse diets, affordable protein sources, nutrition during the first 1,000 days of life, maternal nutrition, breastfeeding and complementary feeding, and prevention of undernutrition, overweight/obesity and nutrition-related non-communicable diseases. Special emphasis was also placed on dietary measures for the prevention of anaemia, including iron-rich foods and practices that promote better iron absorption.
The awareness venue was graced by Prof. Ravneet Kaur, Director Principal, GMCH Chandigarh, and Prof. Vishal Guglani, Medical Superintendent, GMCH Chandigarh. They interacted with the organising team, reviewed the awareness activities and appreciated the collaborative efforts towards promoting nutrition awareness and preventive health practices among patients and the community.
The initiative reflected the broader objective of Poshan Maah to strengthen community participation and positive nutrition-related behaviour change, contributing towards better health and nutrition outcomes.
