City roadways staff hold chakka jam

Updated on Sunday, June 04, 2017 13:25 PM IST

Ambala : Employees of the Haryana Roadways of the Ambala City depot today observed a ‘chakka jam’ following alleged illegal plying of private buses, giving a tough time to commuters. Ramesh Sheokand, district president, Haryana Roadways Workers’ Union, said “The chakka jam has been observed following illegal plying of private buses. A few private buses were playing on the Pehowa-Ambala route without proper permits today. The state government and administration have been helping private players, which is unacceptable.”

A large number of buses had already left for their respective destinations before the employees gave the call of ‘chakka jam’. However, when they started coming back later in the day, they didn’t let them go back on their routes. “If the state government fails to accept our demands and the plying of private buses was not stopped, the roadways employees across the state would be forced to give a ‘chakka jam’ call from Monday, Ramesh added.

The roadways employees in Ambala Cantonment had also observed the chakka jam for nearly half-an-hour in support of their demands.
