Demonetisation will benefit farmers: Birender

Updated on Sunday, June 04, 2017 13:24 PM IST

Sonepat : Union Steel Minister Birender Singh said that demonetisation would open new avenues of employment for farmers as nearly Rs 15 lakh crore had been deposited with the banks after demonetisation.

While addressing a Kisan Sammelan at Gohana in the district, Singh said the entire amount would reach people, including farmers, and the bank authorities would have no other option but to reduce the interest rate on the amount. “Hardly 35 per cent of the money used to be in circulation before demonetisation,” he said.

The minister said that the BJP governments, both at the Centre and in the state, would definitely bring the SYL canal waters to the state. He said that the Supreme Court had already given its decision in favour of Haryana on the SYL canal.

Stating that Haryana was already getting 50 per cent of its share of 3.5 million acre feet of the Sutlej-Yamuna waters, Singh said that the government had planned to construct two dams on the Yamuna to meet out the shortage of water. “The construction work on one of the dams has already been started,” he added.

Agriculture Minister Om Prakash Dhankhar said that the state government in its two-and-a-half year tenure had done more works than during the 10-year rule of the Congress and five-year rule of the INLD in the state.

Urban Local Bodies Minister Kavita Jain claimed that nearly 28 crore poor people in the country were linked under the Jan Dhan Yojana and India was one of the fastest emerging economies in the world. Sonepat MP Ramesh Chander Kaushik listed various completed development projects as well as launching of new ones in his constituency.
